Advocate approaches Bombay High Court after series of thefts in 15 days at his home

The Bombay High Court was informed on Friday about a series of thefts at a lawyer’s house in Dadar East, where five incidents occurred within 15 days. During the hearing, the Senior Inspector of Matunga Police Station appeared in court and assured that efforts are being made to identify the culprits behind the thefts in the Hindu Colony area.
The case was brought to the court’s attention through a petition filed by advocate Dhrutiman Joshi, who stated that since August 15, thieves had stolen various items, including gas cylinders, utensils, and door latches from his home. Joshi, whose family has lived in the building since 1938, explained that the house is now in a dilapidated condition, and he and his family had moved to a nearby building. Despite this, items left behind in the old house were being stolen repeatedly.
Joshi further alleged that the police had initially mocked him when he reported the thefts, saying that such incidents are common in abandoned houses. While an FIR was registered, Joshi claimed the police did not record statements or conduct a proper investigation. He also mentioned that similar break-ins had occurred in his neighbors’ homes.
Additional Public Prosecutor VN Sagare, representing the Mumbai police, informed the court that CCTV footage from the area had been reviewed, and some suspicious individuals had been spotted. The police confirmed that three FIRs had been registered, and investigations were underway.
The bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj Chavan adjourned the hearing to October 25, instructing the police to provide updates on the progress of the investigation.
